Powerpoint

Three years ago the Virginia Technology Internship Program was designed to allow technology focused high school juniors and seniors the opportunity to apply the knowledge they have attained in their IT related courses, projects and work experiences to a business environment as they pursue technology related fields of study in their college years.

Once again the Council will be partnering with Genworth Financial on this very worthwhile cause, and will welcome a new partner to the program this year - VirginiaFIRST. FIRST (For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology) is an international, educational mentoring program that exposes over 130,000 young students each year to life opportunities in science and technology.  With the help of regional businesses such as yours, these students gain valuable insight into the many roles that technology plays in the business world.

Please let us know if you will be able to mentor an intern as soon as you can. The internships will need to take place between June 26th and August 14th but we need to have commitments soon so we know how many students we can place. The recommended duration is an 8 week period with a minimum of 16 hours per week, however that can be changed to suit the project needs. The suggested hourly rate for interns is $10.

You will be able to review the student resumes and select your preferred candidates. Whether you can take one intern or more than that, you can be assured that you are directly responsible for building Richmond's technology workforce of the future.

To become a mentor, please complete this form and fax to Barb Jones at (804) 622-7766.

For more information contact the Council (804) 379-1177, Barb Jones (804) 662-2700, or Bill Ginther (804) 864-8827.
