Good Morning Technology! Breakfast Series

Information Technology, including issues such as; privacy, security, data mining, process improvement, etc. has had a larger impact on the financial services industry than most others.  With the exception of health care, few industries deal with the same level of sensitive information, and even fewer have the potential to affect our lives so dramatically.   SunTrust Mortgage has been on the cutting edge of a technology revolution in financial services that is dramatically reducing processing time, cost, and errors while protecting confidential customer information.

Dan Massey, Sr. VP for Business Transformation at SunTrust Mortgage will be the speaker for our Technology Breakfast Series on November 4th at “The Place” in Innsbrook.  Dan will provide details on the SunTrust process, and insight on exciting future developments.

Vision 20/10

On September 20, 2000, over 500 area leaders attended Vision 20/10: Charting Our Next Great Decade. The event was hosted by the Greater Richmond Chamber and the Greater Richmond Partnership, Inc. Thanks to your sponsorship and support, attendees discussed a variety of projects in small break-out groups. The groups then came together to vote on the Top 10 Projects for the Greater Richmond area for the next 10 years - leading to 2010. It is these 10 Priority Projects that have guided business and civic leaders over the past five years.

The Greater Richmond Chamber of Commerce and the Greater Richmond Partnership will host a follow-up "mid-term" community-wide re-assessment of Vision 20/10 on November 18th at the Siegel Center. The basis for Vision 20/10 Mid-Decade Update will be a series of research studies sponsored by the Greater Richmond Chamber of Commerce and conducted by the Southeaster Institute of Research. These studies will help us review the progress made on our ten priority goals and assess overall resident satisfaction with the region's quality of life. We will identify key areas that should be prioritized in order to protect and improve the region. Finally, we will survey the residents of three cities that Richmond goes head-to-head with competing for some of the most prized economic development projects. These cities are Charlotte, Jacksonville, and Nashville.

We would like to enlist your help by asking you to take a short survey.  This survey will allow residents to share their own thoughts around the Greater Richmond Region's quality of life.

Bruce J. Summers, Federal Reserve Director of Information Technology

Richmond Federal Reserve Director of Information Technology Bruce J. Summers spoke October 14th at the monthly Greater Richmond Technology Council’s October “Good Morning Technology” breakfast on the role of information technology in international central banking.

Summers addressed the final and irrevocable nature of the Federal Reserve’s fund clearing processes, emphasizing that the Fed represents the perfect credit risk since it, in effect, creates money through its central bank clearing function.  The Federal Reserve’s banking operations occur 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, making it possible for dollar-based foreign exchange settlements to occur during banking hours in all time zones.

The Council’s breakfast featuring Summers’ address was sponsored by Symantec, the global leader in information security solutions, and one of the companies that provides IT security solutions to the Federal Reserve Bank.  Symantec develops innovative technology and services to help individuals and enterprises assure the security, availability, and integrity of their information.
