Greater Richmond Technology Council Announces 2007 Technology Awards Finalists

Richmond, VA –- April 12, 2007 – The Greater Richmond Technology Council (GRTC) has announced its 2007 Technology Awards finalists. Thirty-five corporate and community leaders, entrepreneurs, technology pioneers and outstanding individuals have been selected in seven awards categories, with the winners to be announced at the GRTC’s annual Technology Awards Gala on Wednesday, May 9, 2007, 5:30pm – 9:00pm, at the Richmond (VA) Marriott. This event, attended by hundreds of technology leaders, celebrates the best and the brightest in the central Virginia tech sector, recognizing achievements that are vital to the growth of the region’s tech economy.

IBM’s Leadership Award recognizes individual leadership that serves as a catalyst for positive technology-related initiatives in central Virginia. The finalists for the 2007 IBM Leadership award are:

  • Joe Fay, Program Director, IT Partnership & Michael King, Director, Strategy and Business Development, Northrop Grumman Corporation, IT Sector

  • David R. Lohr, Executive Director, Virginia Biosciences Development Center, Inc.

  • Scott McKay, CIO & Senior Vice President, Genworth Financial

  • Debra Ruh, Founder & President, TecAccess, LLC

  •  Walter R. T. Witschey, Museum Director, Science Museum of Virginia

Computer Resource Team’s Educator Award is presented to the educator or school program that provides exceptional technology leadership, and encourages students to pursue higher education or training in engineering, math, and the sciences. Finalists for the 2007 Computer Resource Team Educator Award are:

  • Daniel G. Bartels , Hanover High School

  • Maureen Carley , VCU Executive MS in IS, IT Management Program

  • Timothy Couillard , James River High School

  • Nancy R. Hoover , Lloyd C. Bird High School

  • Steven S. Wagner , Highland Springs High School\

Parsons Point’s IT Builders Award is given to the IT services provider that demonstrates an outstanding ability to deliver technology-enabled business transformation solutions to its internal and/or external clients. The 2007 Parsons Point IT Builders Award finalists are:

  • Logexsoft, Inc.

  • TECHEAD

  •  Wachovia Corporation - Second Shift FG Project Team

Cherry Bekaert & Holland’s Emerging Company Award recognizes the local technology company whose recent growth in revenues and/or employees, accomplishments, and prospects have shown the company’s ability to achieve commercial success. Finalists for the 2007 Cherry Bekaert & Holland Emerging Company Award are:

  • The Computer Solution Company (TCSC)

  • Uptime Solutions Professional Services Group

  • Velocity Micro

Qimonda’s Technology Innovation Award is given to the company whose new technology or use of technology holds significant promise. 2007 Qimonda Technology Innovation Award finalists are:

Northrop Grumman’s Community Support Award recognizes the organization or corporate division whose involvement in the community has enhanced the Greater Richmond community, and added to the company’s and the region’s quality of life. The finalists for the 2007 Northrop Grumman Community Support Award are:

  • Genworth Financial

  • Oliver Creative

  • TecAccess, LLC
     

Strategic Staffing Solutions’ Technology SkillBuilder Award is presented to the institution or organization that executes its mission by integrating and promoting technology as an integral part of the learning or work experience. 2007 Strategic Staffing Solutions’ Technology SkillBuilder Award finalists are:

  • Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield

  • InternDirect, LLC

  • McGuireWoods LLP

  • Science Museum of Virginia/SOL Enrichment Program

  • Timmons Group

The 2007 GRTC Awards Gala will also feature a new annual award, the Chairman’s Award. This award had been given by the GRTC occasionally in the past – Philip Morris USA has stepped up to sponsor it annually as a way to recognize individual or organizational contributions that make a significant impact on the growth of technology in the region, as well as the advancement of Greater Richmond as a center for technology innovation. The award recognizes results that are the product of great leadership, great execution, great process implementation, great innovative ideas, and great talent. The Chairman’s Award winner is selected by the GRTC Executive Council, and will be announced at the Awards Gala.

The 2007 GRTC Awards Gala is sponsored by Capital One. The Gala Reception sponsors are ePlus and Hewlett Packard; the table gifts are sponsored by Network Appliance Inc.

The Greater Richmond Technology Council is an association of businesses and organizations working together to promote the success of technology companies, and the growth of the technology sector of the Central Virginia economy.
