RichTech serves as a catalyst to stimulate and connect innovative, creative and technical people

Based in Richmond, Virginia, RichTech serves to promote the region as a technology center and provides a vehicle for addressing the needs of Central Virginia's dynamic technology community.

The organization known today as RichTech was founded in 1989 as the Central Virginia High Technology Network. In 1995 it adopted the name The Greater Richmond Technology Council. In the spring of 2009 the organization expanded its mission to reach out to the regions expanding creative and technical community and adopted the name of RichTech.  RichTech is governed by a Board of Directors and employs two full-time staff members.

Council membership is representative of the Central Virginia economy. The technology sector of that economy is actually a combination of several key technology based industries including: information technology,  biotechnology, telecommunications, high-performance manufacturing and others. This diversity is our strength and our members not only represent technology producers, users and service providers, but also the supporting industries, organizations and institutions that provide the infrastructure and catalyst necessary for economic expansion.

RichTech is a member of the Virginia Technology Alliance, an organization formed in the late 1990s to link the ten technology councils that exist in Commonwealth of Virginia. Virginia leads the nation in number of technology councils.
