Margaret E. ‘Lyn’ McDermid, senior vice president-Information
Technology and chief information officer, joined Virginia Power in
1982. Prior to that, she was employed by Stone and Webster Engineering
Corp.
A native of Boston, McDermid was the first woman to enter the
Apprentice Program at the Newport News Shipyard where she completed
the Patternmaker’s program.
McDermid’s assignments at Stone and Webster included start up
engineering for five nuclear plants; North Anna 1 and 2, Waterford 1
and 2, and Beaver Valley 2.
After holding various positions in Virginia Power’s Engineering &
Construction Department, McDermid was named director-Administrative
Services in 1986. She was promoted to vice president-Information
Technology and chief information officer October 1, 1998 and was named
to her current position on January 1, 2000.
McDermid received her bachelor’s degree in business from Mary Baldwin
College in Staunton, VA. She went on to earn a Masters of Business
Administration from the University of Richmond.
McDermid was appointed by Governor Gilmore to be a member of the Chief
Information Officer Advisory Board and a member of the Virginia
Research and Technology Advisory Council. She is a member of the Board
of Trustees at Mary Baldwin College, Foundation Board at J. Sargeant
Reynolds Community College, Board of Directors for the Greater
Richmond Technology Council, Board of the Richmond Forum, CIO Forum and is active in United Way and Big Brothers, Big
Sisters.
