Joseph S. Amado
Vice President & Chief Information Officer
Philip Morris, U.S.A.

Joseph S. Amado was appointed Vice President & CIO for Philip Morris U.S.A. in June 2000.  Mr. Amado oversees the management of all systems development and support for Philip Morris U.S.A.  He had previously served as Information Technology Director of Operations, where he was responsible for all of the business system applications for Philip Morris U.S.A.'s Richmond, Louisville, and Cabarrus facilities. 

Mr. Amado joined Philip Morris U.S.A. in 1986 as a computer analyst.  He moved to Louisville, Kentucky as a systems supervisor in 1989, and was later promoted to IT Manager of Philip Morris U.S.A.'s Louisville facility in 1992.  In July 1994, he returned to Richmond to pioneer Philip Morris U.S.A.'s SAP Competency Center.  He was promoted to IT Director of the Information Services Sales Organization in August 1997, and in June of 1998 became IT Director of Operations. 

He currently acts as the Executive Sponsor for college recruiting efforts for Philip Morris U.S.A.'s IT Organization.  He is also a Trustee on the Board of Directors for Winston-Salem State University, GRTC, Greater Richmond Chamber Foundation and FRIENDS, Association for Children - Richmond, VA. 

Prior to joining Philip Morris U.S.A., Mr. Amado worked for Nestle, where he was based out of New York.  Mr. Amado is a native of Yonkers, New York.  He holds a Bachelors Degree from Winston-Salem State University.
